Omaha Poker - principle
The principle is simple. Every player is dealt four cards face down. They then have to use these cards along with three of the five community cards to form the best poker hand and battle against their opponents for supremacy. The difference between Omaha Poker and Texas Hold’em is that the Texas version does not require players to use a specific number of cards from those they are dealt face down. This is seen by some to make the game easier to play as it can be easier to predict what cards an opponent is holding. However, the intricate nature of both Texas Hold’em and Omaha Poker has always meant that the games are easy to learn but in no way appropriate only for children.
There are a number of varieties of and Omaha Poker, most of which are significantly popular all over the world. They include Pot Limit Omaha Poker, No Limit Omaha Poker and the famous High/Low game.
While it has to be assumed that the game gets its name from the city in Nebraska, USA, the origins of the game are difficult to ascertain. However, what stands about Omaha Poker is its continued status in casinos across the world, both including those on land and those based online.
Online poker playing sky rocketed in the early 2000s, with Texas Hold’em the main beneficiary. However, Omaha Poker has retained its position as one of the top three or four versions of the game of poker, online and in casinos. The online version hardly differs from its physical counterpart, aside from the obvious. Indeed the lack of real physical interaction changes the game play considerably. Without the ability to watch an opponent’s reactions in real time, players have to become adept at analyzing the opponent’s betting patterns. Once you manage to achieve this you will be well on the road to becoming a consummate poker player, whether online or in a brick and mortar casino.
One reason Omaha Poker has such a following is the excitement factor. Players have a much greater chance of winning any one hand, creating an exciting tension-filled evening, which may have been unexpected.
There are so many possibilities in a poker game that strategy has to come into the equation. But when it comes down to it, poker is a risk game. In fact, it is that risk, and the thrill that comes with it, that drives players towards playing for sums of cash.
Love it or loathe it, Omaha Poker is a major player on the poker scene and will remain so for years to come.
